The Dordt University women's soccer team rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat Northwestern 6-5 in the final conference match of the regular season played tonight in Orange City, Iowa.
The Defenders secure the No.3 seed and a home match in the upcoming Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) postseason tournament that will get underway with the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov.2. The opponent and time of the match have yet to be determined; the conference office will release the postseason brackets later this evening.
How It Happened:
- scoreless for nearly 10 minutes, Northwestern erupted for three goals over a six-minute stretch for a 3-0 lead at the 15-minute mark
- Grace Timm (9:11), Marissa Talamantes (11:06) and Avril Baccam (15:34) scored for the Red Raiders
- Dordt broke through with back-to-back goals scored by Tel at the 18th and 21st minute
- Tel chased down a long ball and ripped a shot past Red Raider goalkeeper Peyton Anderson for her first goal
- the junior's second goal came on a long pass from Abby Worthy
- Northwestern went up 4-2 with a goal scored by Avril Baccam, her second of the match, at the 26th minute
- with Dordt still down by two (4-2), Tel netted her third goal on a corner kick to cut the lead down to one at the 53rd minute
- nearly 15 minutes later, during the 68th minute, the Defenders tied the match 4-4 on the first of two goals scored by Jennett, assisted by Jenna Roberts
- Jennett gave the Defenders their first lead (5-4) with her second goal at the 79th minute
- less than a minute later, Tel netted the Defenders final goal off an assist from Joslyn Terpstra, giving Dordt a 6-4 lead
- Northwestern scored its final goal on a long ball kicked by Kylie Baccam on the ensuing kickoff to make it a one-goal lead
