The Dordt University men's soccer team played Northwestern to a 1-1 tie in the final match of the regular season for both teams. Tonight's match was played at the NWC Soccer Complex in Orange City, Iowa.
Dordt, now 4-3-3 in the GPAC, 6-7-4 overall, secures a spot in the 8-team, GPAC postseason tournament for the third consecutive season and for the second time under Head Coach
Eric Bourdo. Northwestern also advances to the postseason and moves to 6-2-2 in the GPAC, 7-4-5 overall. Pairings will be announced this evening by the league office.
How It Happened:
- the match was scoreless until the 41st minute when Riley Aarbo broke through with a goal off a Red Raider cornerkick by Stan van den Beld
- trailing 1-0 into the second half, Dordt scored the equalizer on a counter attack goal by Tyson Reitsma, assisted by Marco Laenen
- Defenders goalie Mitchell Dryden made two crucial saves over the final 10 minutes to keep the match tied
By the Numbers:
- Dordt totaled six shots, three on-goal; Northwestern accounted for 15 shots, four on-goal
- Phil Appelt led the Defenders with two shots on frame
- Mitchell Dryden (6-7-3) made three saves
