Phil Appelt scored a pair of goals in leading Dordt University to a 4-2 win over Doane in a GPAC men's soccer match played this afternoon at the Defenders Soccer Complex.
Dordt stays unbeaten in the GPAC, improving to 3-0-2 in the conference, 5-3-3 overall. The Defenders earned their third straight win and push their unbeaten streak to seven. Doane falls to 1-4 in the conference, 3-6-2 overall.
How It Happened:
- the teams traded goals in a first half that ended tied 2-2
- Phil Appelt netted the first goal of the match, blasting a shot from the edge of the penalty box into the net from a cross from Tyson Reitsma
- Doane's Ameer Madden tied the score 11 minutes later, during the 21st minute, off an assist by Hugo Santos
- Dordt responded with a goal by Nolan Karel off a backpass by Maro Laenen during the 37th minute
- Doane tied the match just before the half on a converted penalty kick by Guillem Colom
- Appelt put the Defenders in front for good with a goal during the 53rd minute off a long pass by Tate Hansen
- Marco Laenen completed the scoring with an unassisted goal off a breakaway at the 58th minute
