(Monday, November 18; Sioux Center, Iowa) Mark Alvarez, a senior at Miami Southridge Senior High School (Florida), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender baseball program.
Alvarez pitched 14 and two-third innings last year and posted a sub 3.0 earned run average. He also played for the South Florida Giants and USA Prime South Florida and pitched 22 innings.
"I chose Dordt because I like it's a small school that puts Christ first. I am also able to continue my baseball career as well as pursue a degree in computer networking," said Alvarez.
Mark is the son of Lissette Alvarez-Corbera and Manuel Alvarez of Miami, Florida. H plans to study computer networking.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
