A 17-0 run midway through the second half blew the game open and the Dordt Defenders won their ninth game in a row to start the 2024-25 campaign with a 103-74 win over the Columbia Cougars on Tuesday night, November 26 in Columbia, Missouri.
Box Score (PDF)
Ben Fairclough scored the first eight points for the Defenders and helped the visitors to a 10-4 lead before Columbia shot their way back into it, cutting the gap to 17-16 on a Harrison Vickers three-point basket. The two teams exchanged baskets with
Jake Hargens getting a basket for Dordt and Fairclough added two free throws to extend the lead back to three. A
Bryce Coppock basket followed by a
Connor Millikan three-point basket pushed Dordt to a 26-18 advantage and Columbia never got closer than six as Dordt took a 47-34 halftime lead.
Dordt led 50-36 after a
Lucas Lorenzen three-point bucket with 19:15 left in the game but went quiet as Columbia scored 14 of the next 16 and trailed 52-50 with 15:18 left in the game. Dordt's response was quick with Lorenzen banging in a three-point shot and Coppock took away the ensuing inbounds pass and found Millikan for a lay up. A Lorenzen basket added to the lead before a three-pointer by Columbia momentarily stopped the run.
Leading 66-55 moments later a
Jake Hargens basket ignited a 17-0 run that put the game away as the lead eventually grew past 30.  Columbia never rallied and Dort went over the century mark for the third game in a row and had five players hit for double figures in the non-conference win.
