The Dordt Defender men's basketball team won its 13th straight game to start the season and used a late run to pull away in a 93-79 win over Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Wednesday night.

The Chargers started fast and built a 23-13 lead with 13:17 left in the first half. Luke Rankin started a Dordt rally with a layup and Jake Hargens followed with a basket to cut the lead to six. After a Briar Cliff basket Lucas Lorenzen knocked down a three-point shot and Rankin followed with another basket to trim the difference to 25-22. Dordt eventually took the lead on a Tyler Prins layup and free throw and the Defenders didn't trail the rest of the half in taking a 48-38 lead at the break.
The hosts started the second half with two three-point plays and a three-point basket and eventually took the lead with an 11-0 run. Dordt got up by as many as seven only to have the Chargers rally and lead briefly on two occasions, the final time at 72-71 with 8:59 left in the game.
A Ben Fairclough basket followed by a Connor Millikan hoop after a turnover put Dordt up 74-71 and the Defenders eventually got up by six with Lucas Lorenzen getting a basket in the paint. Ty Van Essen's three-point shot with 4:43 left in the game extended Dordt's advantage to 84-77 and Dordt never led by less than five and closed the game on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes.
