Janie Van Donge scored a game-high 24 points and the Defenders forced a season-high 23 turnovers as No.1 Dordt University earned an 82-54 home win over Hastings in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) women's basketball action played this afternoon at the De Witt Gym.
The top-ranked Defenders improve to 7-0 in the GPAC, 11-0 overall, as they head into their California trip next week. The 11-0 start is the third best in program history, behind last year (12-0) and the 2022-23 team that began the season 16-0. Hastings falls to 4-3 in the GPAC, 7-3 overall.
How it Happened:
- Dordt raced out to an 11-0 lead five minutes in on baskets scored by Van Donge, Macy Sievers and Olivia Harazin
- the Defenders held an 18-3 advantage by quarters end and held Hastings to without a made field goal (0/11) after the first 10 minutes
- a three-pointer from Harazin pushed the Defenders lead to 23-6 early in the second quarter
- another made three-pointer, this time by Sievers, gave Dordt its first 20-point advantage (32-11) at the 3:48 mark
- Dordt led 36-17 at halftime and scored the first five points of the third quarter, finished off with a Harazin three-pointer, to take a 41-17 advantage
- Willow Bleeker knocked down a three-pointer late in the third and put Dordt in front 59-34
- a 6-0 run with baskets by Grace Schoonhoven and Desta Hoogendoorn, along with two free throws by Janie Schoonhoven, gave Dordt its first 30-point lead (72-42) in the fourth quarter
- Dordt shot better than Hastings in all four quarters
