Women's Basketball | Coaching Staff Transitions

(Thursday, June 4; Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt University women's basketball coach Bill Harmsen has announced transitions within the coaching staff.

DJ Droog has assumed the role of lead assistant in the program after serving as a student assistant, graduate assistant, and assistant coach/junior varsity head coach over the last several seasons. Droog assumes many of the responsibilities previously held by Tiffany Koithan, who has resigned her position to pursue other opportunities.

"DJ continues to grow in this position and has shown a willingness to take on the challenges put in front of him," said Harmsen. "I have confidence that DJ will continue to challenge our players to grow in their faith, develop attitudes of servant leadership, excel academically, and pursue championships."

McKenzie Goodwin will assume graduate assistant responsibilities and serve as the head coach of the junior varsity program. Goodwin recently completed her playing career at Dordt and was part of four consecutive GPAC championship teams and four NAIA National Championship qualifiers. She appeared in 61 games during her career and graduated with degrees in Business Administration: Management and Business Administration: Sports Management. Goodwin is a native of Kingsley, Iowa.

"McKenzie's experience as a college athlete will serve her well as she makes this transition," said Harmsen. "The discipline she showed as a player will translate well into the coaching profession. I look forward to seeing her grow in this role."

Kyle Hiemstra, an assistant the last eight years in the program, has accepted the head girls' basketball coaching position at Sioux Center High School (Iowa). Prior to his time with the Dordt women's program Hiemstra was an assistant with the Dordt men's program.

"Kyle has been a steadying influence with our program and has provided stability and attention to details that often go unnoticed by observers. I'm excited for him as he takes on the challenge of being a head coach."

The 2025-26 season was Harmsen's eighth as head coach, and he owns a 222-51 record during that time. The Defenders have appeared in the NAIA National Championship game four times in the last five seasons and have won two national titles.
