(Wednesday, February 21; Sioux Center, Iowa) Keana Wynja, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.
"Keana is a wonderful addition to the Defender Volleyball Program! I am so excited that she has chosen to come to Dordt and continue her volleyball career here. She is a smart, crafty player with championship experience and I am excited to see how she will impact our team and program throughout her career here," said Dordt volleyball coach Jacki Smith.
Wynja is a 6-0 middle hitter who had 440 career kills at Western and recorded 219 career blocks. In 2023 she averaged 2.5 kills and one block per set while helping the Wolfpack to its second straight state title. She was named to the 2023 all-state tournament team and the all-state third-team in Class 3A.
"I chose to attend Dordt because I felt it was a place that was going to grow me in not only my academics and athletics, but also in my walk with the Lord," said Wynja.
Keana is the daughter of Scott and Melanie Wynja of Sioux Center, Iowa. She plans to study nursing at Dordt.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).Â
