Concordia defeats Dordt 89-84
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men's basketball team lost an 89-84 decision to Concordia on Monday night, February 5 in Seward, Nebraska. The game was originally scheduled for January but was moved due to a snowstorm
The Defenders trailed 48-41 at halftime after getting behind by as many as 10. A
Bryce Coppock three-point basket with 5:22 left in the half tied the game at 35-35. Concordia proceeded to score on four-straight possessions with a pair of three-point baskets, a field goal and two free throws to lead by 10 with 3:43 left. Coppock got to the free throw line to stop the run and
Lucas Lorenzen scored a basket to get within six. Dordt missed a couple opportunities to get closer and the teams exchanged baskets, a three by Concordia and a two by
Luke Rankin for the seven-point difference.
Dordt quickly sliced into the lead and had it down to 54-53 with 15:03 remaining in the game after a Rankin basket and
Jackson Louscher got a basket in the paint with 13:42 left in the game for a 55-54 lead. Concordia's answer was quick and Dordt led one more time before the Bulldogs took the lead for good 60-59 with 11:16 left in the game.
The hosts added to the lead and got up 76-68 with 5:52 remaining before
Lucas Lorenzen answered with a basket but Concordia made its third three-point attempt in a row after starting the half 0-5 and led 79-70. Dordt gradually worked the lead down and a
Bryce Coppock three-point shot with :12 left pulled Dordt to within 85-84 and after a pair of free throws by Concordia Dordt turned the ball over and the Bulldogs sealed it with two free throws with under :05 left.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt converted 32-73 field goals and 7-28 three-point shots for 44 and 25 percent respectively.
- Dordt had a 45-37 edge but committed nine turnovers to seven for the Bulldogs.
- Concordia was 29-65 from the field and 11-30 from the three-point line.
- Concordia is 18-5 overall and 11-4 in the conference. Dordt is 17-6 overall and 10-5 in the GPAC.
