HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men's volleyball team secured a road conference win over Ottawa on Friday night by a 3-1 count.
Ottawa controlled the latter stages of set one and pulled away for a 25-20 win after the score was tied 13-13. Ottawa went on a 4-0 run to take control of the set.
Set two belonged to Dordt as the Defenders used a 3-0 run to lead 13-10, getting the final point in the run on a block by
Nicodemus Elliott and
Lance Vermeer. A 5-0 run later in the set pushed Dordt from a 14-13 advantage up to 19-13 and got another block by Vermeer and
Lukas Van Groningen.
Set three had Dordt in command early and the Defenders went up 18-6 before winning 25-11. Dordt did have to fight off a late rally in set four as Ottawa closed to within 20-18 but Dordt finished on a 5-1 run for the 25-19 win.
CHAD HANSON SAID
This match took some time to settle in to after a first set that showed too many errors. In the remaining sets we played at a new level of competitive execution with spirited unity. This was important for us in the conference standings.
