Dordt def. Kansas Wesleyan 3-0 (25-22, 29-27, 26-24)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt secured a pair of set wins with late comebacks and swept Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday, March 23 in GPAC volleyball at the De Witt Gym.
Set one was evenly played with Dordt trailing 21-19. A Nicodemus Elliott kill followed by a Spencer Franken and Elliott block tied the set at 21-21. Andres Guzman followed with an ace serve for a Dordt lead and after a Defender attack error three straight points ended the set with two of the points coming on Wesleyan errors.
Kansas Wesleyan looked poised to take set two with a 21-13 lead and Dordt's comeback began innocently with a Lance Vermeer kill followed by an Elliott ace. Dordt eventually got to within 21-18 and the teams traded points to 22-19. Guzman followed a Cade Schmidt kill and a Coyote attack error made it 22-21. The visitors had an answer and got to set point but Lukas Van Groningen got a kill and Guzman tied it 24-24 with back to back kills. Neither team was able to score back to back points until Dordt tied the set on an Elliott kill at 27 and he followed with another two kills to finish the set 29-27.
Again Wesleyan seemed to have the third set in control, leading 21-17. A service error by the visitors and a Dordt block got the lead down to 21-19 but the Defenders were down 23-21 but eventually got three kills in a row by Cade Schmidt and then won the set on a Lance Vermeer kill.
