GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Concordia Bulldogs put up four runs in the second inning and that was enough as they secured a 9-1 win over Dordt in game one of their doubleheader in Sioux Center on Saturday, March 30.
 
Dordt got its run in the third inning when Dylan Stanley knocked in Nate Eliason but the visitors responded with two runs in the fourth and another three in the sixth for the 9-1 final.  Dordt stranded two runners in the third as well and had base runners in each of the last three innings but couldn't get the timely hit for more runs.
 
THE NUMBERS
 
  • Dordt was outhit 11-6.
  •  Three of Concordia's runs were unearned.
  •  Jared Hughes took the loss for Dordt with five innings pitched, two strikeouts and four earned runs given up.
  •  Joseph Schlesselman had two singles for a multi-hit game and all of Dordt's hits were singles.
 
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Concordia Bulldogs made it a sweep of the Defenders with an 8-3 game two win over the Dordt Defenders in GPAC play.
 
Concordia got two across in the second, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh before Dordt answered. The Defenders scored a run in the home half of the seventh inning when Nolan Christianson was retired trying to steal second base and Joey Schlesselman came in from third on the rundown.
 

 
Dordt added two more in the eighth inning when Nate Eliason sacrificed Kaeden Dean in from third base and Josh Tiersma later scored on a double to centerfield to make it 6-3. Concordia added two insurance runs in the ninth to make the final 8-3.
 

 

 
THE NUMBERS
 
  • Both teams had nine hits.
  •  Dordt's Justin Bryson took the loss with four and a third innings of work and he struck out one and surrendered three earned runs.
  •  Julio Romero and Robert Doble each had two innings pitched for Dordt with Romero striking out fur and Doble two. Romero gave up one earned run.
  •  Joseph Schlesselman had two hits and a run scored.
  •  Six other Defenders had singles and Dylan Stanley had Dordt's only extra base hit, the run scoring double in the eighth inning.
