(Tuesday, April 9; Sioux Center, Iowa) Sonny Heil, a senior at St. James High School (Minnesota) has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender hockey program.
"Sonny Heil has been a young man we have had our eye on here for four years. He has been a great player in Windom over his high school career, and he will help keep our Windom pipeline alive. We are excited to have him and eager to watch him continue to grow into a fantastic young man on our campus," said Dordt hockey coach Tyler Morgan.
Heil is a 6-2 forward who was a Big South All-Conference pick in 2-24 and a four-year first line forward. He was a top-100 scorer combined during his four years and is in the top-three all-time in scoring for Windom Hockey.
"Dordt is the right size school I was looking for and it has the major and the sport I wanted to play after high school," said Heil.
Sonny is the son of Steven and Katie Heil of St. James, Minnesota. He plans to study construction management.
Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
