GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Midland Warriors scored five late runs to forge a 6-0 win over the Dordt Defenders in game one of their doubleheader in Sioux Center on Monday afternoon, April 15.
Midland's first run came in the second inning but stranded two runners as
Chloe Kreuz was able to limit the damage. Dordt threatened with two runners in the bottom of the same inning, getting runners on second and third but a strikeout ended the inning. Dordt also got a leadoff single by
Aurora Tyson in the bottom of the fourth inning but the next three batters were retired.
Midland put the game out of reach with three in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 6-0 final as Midland retired 11 batters in a row to close the game.
THE NUMBERS
- Midland had a 10-2 hits advantage and Dordt committed the only error of the game.
- Aurora Tyson and Chloe Kreuz each had singles and neither team was issued a walk.
- Kreuz took the loss and allowed six earned runs on 10 hits.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midland scored two first inning runs and never trailed in taking a 5-1 sweep of the Defenders in game two of the doubleheader. Midland added two in the fourth and another in seventh for their five runs.
Dordt got one in the sixth after leaving the bases loaded in the second inning. Dordt's run came on a
Emma Groen single that plated
Peyton Whipple who was running for
Lauren Steenstra.
THE NUMBERS
- Midland had a 9-8 hits advantage and both teams had one error.
- All of Dordt's hits were singles with Chloe Kreuz getting two hits.
- Bailey Sample took the loss with four runs on six hits allowed and she struck out three with three walks.
- Jadyn Faber pitched three innings in relief and gave up a run on three hits and two walks.
- Dordt is now 8-4 in the GPAC and 21-18 overall.
- Midland is 34-5 overall and 13-1 in the GPAC.
