HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a 3-0 decision on the road to Hastings Friday afternoon to start a four-game road set.
The game was scoreless until Hastings broke through with three in the sixth inning took the pitcher's duel. The Broncos ad two runners on in the first and fifth innings but
Jared Hughes was able to work his way out of trouble in both instances.
Dordt's had a base runner in four of the first six innings but couldn't string hits together. The Broncos broke through with three runs in the sixth on two hits, a sacrifice bunt and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders lost an 11-8 decision in game two of its doubleheader with Hastings on Friday night after grabbing a 5-2 lead after the Defenders' half of the third inning. Â
Hastings had a 2-0 lead after scoring on a wild pitch and an unearned run in the second but Dordt got a run back on an error to start its scoring in the third. A
Dylan Stanley double plated a run and
Drew Oreskes and
Morgan Wilkins each had rbi singles. Anthony Klinzing added a single to finish the scoring to get
Jason Carrig across.
The hosts came back with two in the third to tie the game and then took the lead in the fourth and extended it with two more in the fifth for an 8-5 lead.
Dordt whittled into the lead with
Josh Tiersma getting a single in the sixth and Oreskes and
Morgan Wilkins added a double and single for two more runs and tied the game 8-8. Hastings finished the scoring with two in the seventh and another in the eighth for an 11-8 final.
THE NUMBERS
- Dordt had a 13-7 hits advantage but committed five errors.
- Drew Oreskes and Morgan Wilkins each had three hits with Oreskes knocking in two runs and scoring twice.
- Dylan Stanley had two hits and scored twice and Anthony Rodriguez had a pair of hits.
- Dordt utilized seven pitchers with Drew De Vries starting the game and he struck out three in two innings of work.
- The Defenders allowed five unearned runs.
- Dordt is 8-35 and Hastings is 14-30.
