GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt dropped Jamestown in an elimination contest on Thursday, May 2 in Sioux Center, Iowa in the GPAC Postseason Tournament. The Defenders rallied from two deficits to secure the win and advance to play Midland in the bracket championship.
Jamestown scored three in the first but Dordt had an answer as
Chloe Kreuz singled in
Karli Olsen and
Brooke Rule.
Lauren Steenstra followed with a sacrifice fly to plate
Aurora Tyson and
Alyssa Villa's single added a run scored by Kreuz. Â
Emma Groen capped the six-run uprising with a two run-homerun for a 6-3 lead.
Jamestown's response was a two-run homer in the second followed by a three-run third inning and another three runs in the fourth inning for an 11-6 advantage. Steenstra knocked in two for the Defenders in the home half of the fourth and Kreuz later scored on a fielder's choice.
Dordt got within one in the fifth that scored
Brooklynn Cox for an 11-10 score. In the bottom of the seventh inning Cox led off with a single and Rule reached on an error that allowed Cox to score the tying run as the ball went into the right field corner. Olsen followed and reached on an error to get runners at the corners and a Tyson fly ball to left was enough to get Rule in from third with the winning run.

THE NUMBERS
- Dordt was outhit 15-11.
- Aurora Tyson was 3-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in with three singles and a walk.
- Lauren Steenstra had three runs batted in.
- Alyssa Villa, Chloe Kreuz and Emma Groen all had two runs batted in with singles.
- Jadyn Faber came on in relief and got the pitching win with the final three innings of work and she struck out two and walked one with three this allowed and she didn't give up a run.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second day in a row the Dordt Defender softball team fell to the nationally rated Midland Warriors. This time the loss ended the Dordt season in the double elimination, four-team bracket to determine Saturday's championship series participant.
Midland struck for three, two-out runs in the first inning and then added two in the second and two in the fourth before ending the game with a run in the sixth inning.
Dordt got a
Brynn Torrenga single to start the third inning but didn't advance and
Karli Olsen and
Chloe Kreuz had singles to put runners at first and second for the Defenders with one out. A popout and a strikeout followed to end the threat and Dordt didn't have a base runner in the next three innings.
THE NUMBERS
- Midland had a 5-3 hits advantage.
- Neither team had an extra base hit.
- Dordt's pitchers were hampered by 10 total walks.
- Alexa Kopaska took the loss and Bailey Sample pitched the final four and a third innings and gave up three runs and had three strikeouts.
- Dordt had the three singles from Olsen, Kreuz and Torrenga.
- Dordt ends the season with a 27-24 record while Midland advances to the best of three final against Northwestern on Saturday with a 42-8 record.
