The Dordt Defenders defeated the Jamestown Jimmies on a 4-3 decision in Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday evening.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt got off to an early start when just after 15 minutes of play, Jacob Narkis netted the first goal of the game and his second goal of the season. Pol Calvo received a pass in the Defenders' half of the field and made a nice one touch pass to Narkis who gave it right back. Calvo beat his defender down the sideline and brought the ball into the box where he found Narkis waiting at the top of the box. Narkis took a touch to set up his right foot where he curled it into the back post upper corner to give Dordt the early lead.Â
Dordt would add on to their lead just five minutes later after a Marco Laenen goal. Tate Hansen would battle with a Jimmies defender at the edge of the box before winning the ball and putting it at the top of the six yard box and found a wide open Laenen to put it in at the near post to go up by two. Jamestown would earn a penalty kick and convert it to cut the Dordt lead in half shortly before the halftime break.
The Defenders didn't waste much time in the second half as they scored in the 50th minute after Santiago Carvajal would pick up the lose ball and give a perfect slotted pass to Tyson Reitsma making a run at the top of the penalty area. Reitsma took a one-time shot that nutmegged the keeper for his first goal of the season.Â
Jamestown answered right back after Levi Jaeger committed a foul just outside the penalty area that gave Jamestown a dangerous free kick. Oscar Salgado lined up and hit a perfect free kick that snuck in the top corner past Dryden's outstretched hand to bring the Jimmies back within one. Dordt added to their lead again in the 63rd minute after Tate Hansen found Jacob Narkis making a run and his first touch took him to the corner of the penalty area. Narkis sent a cross to Marco Laenen waiting at the penalty spot and he took one touch over the keeper and off the crossbar to record his second goal of the contest.
Jamestown's, Ben Brake, would score their third goal of the game in the 76th minute after Oscar Salgado put the ball in the box off a set piece that found Brake's head and eventually found the side netting. Dordt would hold on for the final few minutes to secure their first win of the 2024 season.

Dordt's record improves to 1-3-1 and will host NCAA DIII Central College on September 14th in Sioux Center, Iowa.
