The Dordt Defenders earned a 1-0 win over the Central Dutch this afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Defenders wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Trigve Elkins scored the game winner just 50 seconds into the first half. After Phil Appelt forced a turnover in the midfield, he found his way into the penalty area and dribbled towards the goal line, a Dutch defender managed to poke the ball away but right to Pol Calvo on the outside of the box. Calvo took one touch and found Trigve Elkins who put it off the near post and in for the game winner.
One of Central's chances came in the 25th minute after Teddy Apostolopoulos found some space at the top of the box and put a curling shot at the near post corner that Mitchell Dryden was able to tip over the bar to keep the shutout. Central's best chance came on a free kick in the 77th minute. Alejo Marcon had a free kick on the corner of the penalty area but shot it right at the wall.
Edward Puglisi came in for an injured Mitchell Dryden in the 81st minute and recorded his first career save.
