Last Second Goal Gives Defenders Win Against Concordia

Dordt earns first win over the Bulldogs since 2010

Karinna Tel netted a goal with two seconds left to give the Dordt University women's soccer team a 3-2, last-second win over Concordia in a conference match played this afternoon at the Defenders Soccer Complex. \ The Defenders pick up their first GPAC win this season, improving to 1-0-1 in league play, 5-1-1 overall. They beat Concordia for the first time since 2010, snapping a 13-match winless streak. Concordia falls to 0-2 in the GPAC, 3-4-1 overall

How It Happened:
  • The Game Winner:
    • tied 2-2, Defenders goalkeeper Jenna Wright punted the ball away with 20 seconds left that Tel touched off to her teammate Joslyn Terpstra
    • Terpstra dribbled up the right side and eventually angled towards the goal forcing Concordia goalkeeper Aliya Vidro to come out and challenge
    • Terpstra made a centering pass, just out of reach of Vidro, to Tel, who touched a shot into the wide open goal for the game winner
  • Dordt opened the scoring with a goal from Terpstra, assisted by Tel, during the 16th minute of the first half
  • up 1-0 at halftime, the Defenders went up 2-0 during the 51st minute when Brooke Marjama stepped in front of a Concordia pass near midfield, sent a long pass ahead to Tel who carried the ball to the corner, cut it back to the middle of the field and shot it past Bulldogs goalie, Aliya Vidro
  • with Dordt leading 2-0, Concordia broke through with a goal by Katelyn Smith, who scored off her own rebound during the 78th minute
  • Concordia tied the match 10 minutes later when Kierstynn Garner netted her ninth goal of the season with just two minutes left

  • Tel ranks third in the GPAC with a team-leading eight goals scored
  • the junior is tied for the GPAC lead with 21 points
  • with her two goals scored, Tel moved into a for third place all-time with 46 career goals
    • tied with Kate DuMez (2006-09) and Nicki DeBlaey (2002-05)
