Men's Soccer Nets Five in Win Over Waldorf

The Dordt men's soccer team was firing on all cylinders as they defeated the Waldorf Warriors, 5-1, on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dordt had a few early opportunities in the game that failed to find the back of the net until the 16th minute. Marco Laenen scored one half of his brace and his third goal of the season. Phil Appelt crossed the ball in, and it was initially headed away from goal but right to Laenen at the top of the penalty area. Laenen took a touch out of the air and finished a volley past the goalkeeper.

Most of the first half would remain in Dordt's control, and in the 44th minute, Anton Forsch converted the penalty kick that would prove to be the game winner. That was Forsch's first goal of the season, and Dordt would lead at the break.

Marco Laenen completed the brace in the 52nd minute after receiving a cross from Tate Hansen that went between the defenders' legs, and Laenen finished it for his fourth goal of the season.

Jacob Narkis put another on not too long after. Trigve Elkins got a pass from Tate Hansen down the sideline, and Elkins gave a near-perfect pass to Narkis at the top of the box. Narkis took a touch and finished the goal at the near post for the fourth of the game and Narkis' fourth goal of the year.

Dordt added some insurance in the 67th minute after Trigve Elkins gave a pass across the box that Laenen let roll through. Ryan Reyes took a touch and put it in the back of the net for his first career goal.

Waldorf had a free kick in the 71st minute that was heading for the upper corner, but Mitchell Dryden made a diving save. Waldorf did get on the scoreboard after Vinzent Krieger converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute—his first goal of the season.

By the numbers:

Dordt's record improves to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0-2 in GPAC play. They will travel to Mount Marty on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
