The Dordt University men's golf team completed play on day one at the Blue River Classic, a two-day, 54-hole event held at The Highlands Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
The Defenders shot a 618 this afternoon and are in 13th place out of 16 teams after the first 36 holes. Dordt carded a 313 this morning for round one and improved its scored by eight strokes (305) in round two this afternoon. They trail Mount Marty (614) by four strokes and are nine shots in back one of Doane's teams.
Indian Hills Community College holds a 13-shot lead over Iowa Western Community College after day one. Both teams shot under par with Indian Hills carding an incredible 23-under par (553). Morningside was the top NAIA team with a 583 (+7) and is currently in third place.Â
David Chacon is the top Defender golfer and sits in a tie for 46th place with a 153 (80/73). Chacon shot a 73 (+1) this afternoon, improving by seven strokes from the morning round.
Cole Feenstra and
Caleb Douma are tied for 50th place with a 154; Feenstra carded a 77 in both rounds while Douma went 76/78.
Eli Van Essen (T63rd - 158) and
Caden Koole (T65th - 159) round out the Dordt scores.
Facundo Moraga is the overall leader, owning a one shot lead over his teammates Chris Richards and Emilio Arellano, with a 7-under 137 (70/67).Â
Thursday's final round (18-holes) will begin at 8:30am.
