Dordt defeated No. 25 Benedictine (Kan.) on a 1-0 decision on Wednesday night in Atchison, Kan.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Benedictine controlled much of the opening moments of the game as they tallied seven shots and three corners in the opening five minutes and Jenna Wright saved all but one of them, which was blocked. Karinna Tel attempted to get the Defenders some offensive opportunities but her shot was saved. Benedictine put together three more shots but once again, all were saved by Wright.Â
Benedictine took 23 shots in the first half but none were able to find the back of the net and Jenna Wright had 15 saves after 45 minutes of play. The teams would enter the halftime break scoreless.
15th save for Jenna Wright
The second half started with a flurry of Dordt attacks with shots by Karinna Tel, Joslyn Terpstra, Eliza Evans, and Madison Bachar.Â
Dordt was able to break the tie in the 64th minute after Hayden Jennett was able to win the ball on the near sideline and then found Tel making a run behind the defense. Tel took a few touches towards the corner of the penalty area before cutting around the defender towards the goal line. Tel put a low corss into the box for Joslyn Terpstra who was only able to manage a touch with her right foot but the ball took a fortunate bounce towards the near post where she was able to score the game winner.Â
With 25 minutes left to play, Benedctine did their best to attempt a comeback by putting up nine shots including a shot off a corner kick that was punched away by Wright for her 21st save with a minute left in the game.
Head Coach, Alex Durbin, had this to say about Jenna Wright's performance:
"Unreal... you can quote me, 'Jenna Wright... player of the game."
