The Dordt University men's golf team concluded play at the Blue River Classic, a two-day, 54-hole tournament held at The Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.
In 13th place after Wednesday's first round of 36 holes, the Defenders moved up one spot and overtook Mount Marty for a 12th place finish in the final team standings. Dordt shot a 305 for the second consecutive round and closed the tournament with a 54-hole total of 923 (313 / 305 / 305).
Indian Hills Community College (Iowa) won the team title, carding a 54-hole score of 832 (-32) and the only team to finish under par for the tournament. Iowa Western Community College was a distant second (866), followed by Northeast Community College (Neb.) with an 871. Two teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), Doane and Morningside, finished fourth (874) and fifth (880), respectively.
Dordt was led by
Cole Feenstra who finished in a three-way tie for 45th place with a 228 (+12). Feenstra shot a two-over 74 in today's final round, his best score of the two-championship.
Caleb Douma held his placing in the standings, finishing tied for 50th place with a 230 (+14). Douma concluded the tournament with a 76, the same score he shot in the first round.
David Chacon tied for 52nd place with a 231 (+15), closing the championship with a 78.
Eli Van Essen was the Defenders fourth golfer and moved up five spots in the standings, placing 58th with a 54-hole score of 235 (+19). Van Essen matched his season-best round with a 77.
Caden Koole (240 +24) finished 67th and shot an 81 in today's final round.
Indian Hills Community College teammates Facundo Moraga and Emilio Arellano shared medalist honors with a 10-under 206. The Warriors finished 1-4 in the individual standings as Chris Richards (210) and Carl Knauer (212) were also under par.
The Defenders will co-host a meet with Northwestern, the Siouxland Invite, on Monday/Tuesday, Sept. 9-10 at The Ridge and Landsmeer Golf Club.
