The Dordt University men's soccer team battled Briar Cliff to a 1-1 draw in a GPAC match played tonight at the Defender Soccer Complex.
The tie gives both teams a point and keeps the Defenders in a tie with Doane for seventh place in the GPAC with six points. Briar Cliff remains just one point back (5pts) and in ninth place.
The Defenders (1-3-3, 4-5-5) opened the scoring in the 27th minute when
Joseba Zabala netted his first goal of the season, finishing off a well-placed assist from
Trigve Elkins. Dordt controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Chargers 9-4 and forcing seven saves from Briar Cliff goalkeeper
Xabier Ilundain.
Briar Cliff equalized in the 68th minute, as
Gabriel Hernandez Le scored on a long ball that skipped off the turf and bounded over Defenders goalie
Shad Jaeger, with the assist from
Alex Johnson.
By the Numbers:
