HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt defeated Mount Marty 3–1 (25–12, 13–25, 30–28, 25–23) in a tightly contested GPAC match at De Witt Gym in Sioux Center.
Set 1 (25–12 Dordt):
Dordt jumped out quickly, fueled by kills from
Laney Wolfswinkel and
Haley Kuperus and two service aces from
Haley Wielenga. A 6–1 run midway through extended the lead to 17–9, and the Defenders closed it with back-to-back kills from
Myra Carlson and
Ellie Weg.
Set 2 (25–13 Mount Marty):
Mount Marty answered with a dominant run behind Gabby Miller's hot hand. The Lancers opened with a 7–1 surge and never trailed, using three blocks and Miller's four kills to stretch the gap. Dordt struggled with errors, finishing with a -.143 efficiency.
Set 3 (30–28 Dordt):
This set featured 12 ties and 3 lead changes. Dordt led early 4–1, but Mount Marty rallied for a 9–4 edge after a string of kills by Adisyn Indahl. From 18–14 down, Dordt chipped away with kills by
Ada Dekkers and
Laney Wolfswinkel, tying at 21. In extra points, Dekkers and Wolfswinkel combined for key kills, and Dekkers sealed it at 30–28.
Set 4 (25–23 Dordt):
Another back-and-forth set with 8 ties and 3 lead changes. Dordt led 11–8 after a block from
Ada Dekkers and
Tarren Spartz, but Mount Marty battled back to tie at 12. The Defenders used a late 4–0 run capped by a service ace from
Peyton Poppema to push ahead 22–19. The Lancers closed to 24–23, but Dekkers' kill from
Carlee Jackson ended the match.
