Women’s Soccer Advances in GPAC Tournament with 2-0 Win Over Doane

The Dordt University women's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over Doane University in the quarterfinal round of the GPAC postseason tournament Tuesday night at the Defender Soccer Complex.

The Defenders (10-5-3) struck early and maintained control throughout the match, outshooting the Tigers (8-9-2) by a margin of 17-11 and earning six corner kicks to Doane's none.

Dordt advances to the GPAC semifinals for the third consecutive year and will host No.8 seed Mount Marty (S.D.) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 5pm.

Maria Zylstra opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing a well-placed assist from Karinna Tel to notch her sixth goal of the season. Tel, the GPAC's leading scorer, added to her tally with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute — her 23rd of the year — giving Dordt a comfortable cushion.

Goalkeeper Lydia Zylstra (10-5-3) was stellar in net, recording eight saves and earning her seventh shutout of the season. 

Doane ends the season with a loss in the GPAC Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year and finishes with an 8-9-2 record.
