The Dordt University's women's soccer team secured a spot in the GPAC Championship match with a 3-0 victory over Mount Marty (S.D.) in Saturday's semifinal at the Defenders Soccer Complex.
Karinna Tel delivered a standout performance, netting all three goals for the Defenders to record her 12th career hat trick and fourth of the season.
Tel opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing a pass from Maria Zylstra. Tel added her second goal in the 65th minute and capped the night with a third in the 88th minute, again assisted by Zylstra.
Dordt dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Mount Marty 13-5 and placing seven shots on goal. Zylstra, who assisted two of Tel's goals, also led the midfield with two shots.
Defensively, goalkeeper Lydia Zylstra recorded four saves to earn the clean sheet, supported by a backline that stifled Mount Marty's attack.
The Defenders held a 1-0 lead at halftime and continued to apply pressure in the second half, registering nine shots and earning a corner kick. Mount Marty managed three corner kicks and four shots on goal but couldn't break through Dordt's defense.
With the win, Dordt improves to 12-5-3 on the season and advances to play No.3 seed Hastings (Neb.) in the GPAC Championship match on Wednesday night, Nov.12 at 7pm.
