The Dordt men's volleyball team earned a sweep (25-22, 25-16, 25-14) over Viterbo in the De Witt Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Defenders are now 4-1 overall and have won two straight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set went back and forth for a while until Viterbo took an 11-7 lead after a
Cade Schmidt attack error. The Viterbo lead would get as large as five when they led 15-10 until a 6-0 run gave the Defenders the lead. Viterbo would battle back to tie it a few times but three straight Defender points would give them enough of a cushion to hold on for the first set win.
Dordt took control early in the second set as a
Cade Schmidt kill would give them a 9-5 lead. Viterbo brought the set within one but an
Andres Guzman kill would spark a 10-3 run.
Andres Guzman recorded another kill and an Ethan Davis attack error gave the Defenders a 2-0 set lead.
Viterbo got out to an early 3-1 lead in the third set but Dordt eventually tied it up at six before going on a 12-5 run to take a 18-10 lead. Dordt would score the next seven out of ten points, capped off by a
Michael Gross kill to secure the sweep.
Dordt is now 4-1 overall and will travel to Davenport, Iowa to face Saint Ambrose on February 4. That match is scheduled to start at 5 pm.
