The William Penn Statesmen were 3-0 winners (25-22, 25-8, 25-23) winners over Dordt in Heart of America Athletic Conference men's volleyball on Friday night in the De Witt Gym. Dordt hung close in sets one and three but set two got away from the Defenders in the early going.

Andres Guzman got Dordt into a 10-10 tie in set one but the visitors followed with a three-point run and Dordt never led again in the set, getting within one on eight different occasions, the last time at 23-22 after a
Lukas Van Groningen kill but William Penn scored back to back points to take a 1-0 match lead.
Dordt was down 4-2 in set two when the Statesmen went on a 9-1 run for a 13-3 lead and Dordt never scored back to back points the rest of the set for a 2-0 match advantage after the 25-8 victory.
The Defenders regrouped and had a 7-5 lead in set three after a
Cade Schmidt service ace and Dordt had 15-11 lead after a William Penn attack error. After a timeout the visitors scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 19-17 lead but Dordt again answered, getting a point on an attack error,
Joel Van Groningen ace and a
Cade Schmidt kill.
Another William Penn timeout followed and the teams swapped points to a 22-21 Dordt lead. Three in a row by William Penn put them up 24-22 and after a Schmidt kill the Statesmen finished the match 25-23.
Dordt is 5-3 and will host Grand View on Saturday at 3pm.
