The Dordt University softball team hit three home runs and
Bailey Sample took a no-hitter into the fourth inning to lead the Defenders to an 11-0, five-inning win over Mayville State (N.D.) for a split in Friday's games. Dordt lost its first game against University of Saint Mary (Kan.) 8-6.
Game One: 8-6 loss vs Saint Mary (Kan.)

- both teams scored four runs in in the first inning
- Alexis McDaniel got things started for the Spires with a solo home run
- Kate Robinette followed with an RBI single and Gianna Paape hit a two-run single for a 4-0 lead
- Dordt came back with four runs in their half of the first as Annabelle Hensley and Peyton Whipple delivered RBI singles
- the Spires went back in front after an RBI single by Brooke Gerling in the top of the second
- Dordt grabbed the lead with a 2-run, bottom half of the second inning
- Saint Mary came back to tie the game with a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Grace Ross
- the Spires scored the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning off a double steal and an RBI single by Briana Solis

- How it Happened:
- Kasie Karsak put the Defenders in front with a three-run home run, scoring both Kreuz and Cox, with two outs in the top of the first inning
- still leading 3-0 in the top of the third inning, Taylor Schneider belted her first career home run, a two-out, three-run shot, for a 6-0 Defenders lead
- Cox led off the fourth inning with a single and came around to score on a two-run home run by Kreuz, the Defenders third of the game
- up 8-0, Dordt scored its final three runs in the top of the fifth as Schneider, Cox and Kreuz all had singles and Ashtyn Grissom drove in a run with a groundout
- By the Numbers:
- Dordt totaled 13 hits, tied for the second most in a single game this season
- the 11 runs scored is the most scored this season by the Defenders (9 was previous high)
- Kreuz and Cox led the Defenders with three hits each
- this was the sixth multi-hit game of the season for Kreuz
