The Defenders avoided the reverse sweep with a 3-2 victory over the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Eutectics.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Defenders cruised through the first two sets as they won them 25-12 and 25-15 respectively. The Defenders got out to an early 9-2 lead in set one after
Kai Chapman aced his serve and the Defenders never looked back, a block by

Andres Guzman capped off a 6-2 run that forced the Eutectics to burn their first timeout and gave Dordt a 14-4 lead. Three straight points off a Cameron Werner service error and back-to-back kills by
Cade Schmidt set up the Defenders to take set one.
Lukas Van Groningen secured the 25-12 win with a kill.
Dordt started the second set with a
Cade Schmidt kill and then UHSP saw three straight points to take their first lead of the game, 3-1. Dordt battled back to tie it at three after a service error and a bad set. The Defenders went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-6 lead and then a 6-1 run would give them a 18-9 lead. The Eutectics would rattle off four straight points but a
Joel Van Groningen kill and a block by
Lukas Van Groningen and Aidan Brandsma gave Dordt a 25-15 win in set two.
The Eutectic offensive finally started to break through in the third set after hitting -.100 though the first two sets. UHSP hit .290 en route to a 25-23 win to avoid the sweep.
Both offenses struggled in the fourth set as neither team hit particularly well. UHSP hit .062 and Dordt hit -.032 and that would loom large as it was very tight throughout the set. UHSP held set point but a kill from
Kai Chapman gave them the side out. An attack error put Dordt within one but a bad set gave UHSP the win and forced a fifth set.
Dordt got out to a 3-1 lead in the final set after
