The Dordt Defenders earned their third win of the conference season with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) win over Clarke in Heart of America Athletic Conference play at the De Witt Gym on Friday night, February 28.

Dordt took the lead for good in set one at 7-6 on back to back attack errors and pulled away with a 5-0 run that included a pair of kills by
Cade Schmidt and a block by
Lance Vermeer for a 19-12 lead. Dordt scored five of the last six points of the set and the final three points for a 25-15 win with a
Lukas Van Groningen ace serve finishing the set.
Dordt trailed in set two and was still behind at 14-13 when Schmidt got a kill to tie it and back to back hitting miscues by the Pride put Dordt up 16-14 and the Defenders fought off a Clarke rally that tied the set at 19-19. A service error ignited a four point run by the Defenders and Dordt won the set 25-22 with Schmidt providing the exclamation point.
Dordt appeared to be headed to a sweep in set three with an 11-7 lead but Clarke rallied to tie it at 12-12. A four point Dordt run that included a
Joel Van Groningen kill and an
Andres Guzman ace along with a
Cory Kuperus and Van Groningen block seemed to restore order. The two teams exchanged points with Dordt still leading 17-13. A kill by Clarke started a 9-0 run by the visitors and Dordt got no closer than 24-22 before falling 25-22.
Dordt never trailed in set four after taking the lead at 5-4 and fought off a Clarke charge that closed a five point lead to 22-19 and Dordt won 25-21 with Guzman getting a kill to finish the set.
Dordt is now 3-4 in the league and 8-5 overall and Clarke is 1-12 and 1-6.
