The Dordt Defender baseball team earned a dramatic win in its first game of the day in a 10-9 win over Valley City State and then controlled its game with Cornerstone for a 7-3 win.

VS VALLEY CITY STATE
Dordt surrendered the lead in the top of the ninth but scored the game winner on an error to earn its second win of the season over Valley City State in a game delayed by rain and lightning on Wednesday. The game was 2-1 Valley City State when Dordt rallied for a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a Drew Oreskes single that plated Carson Belcher and Matt McMillian.

McMillian figured into the scoring on the sixth as well after Dordt had fallen behind 5-3 when he lifted  a sacrifice fly to score Joseph Schlesselman and a fielder's choice int eh seventh by Morgan Wilkins tied the game at 5-5. Dordt added to the lead with a DJ Kerr bunt getting misplayed and a sacrifice fly scored Kerr for an 8-5 lead. Dordt's lead grew to 9-5 in the eighth inning on another Schlesselman fly out that scored Oreskes.

Valley City State came back with four in the ninth but left the bases loaded when Matthew Eubanks came in to record the final three outs. Eubanks was Dordt's seventh pitcher in the scheduled nine-inning game.

In the bottom of the ninth the Defenders got McMillian on with a walk and after a popout Logan Templeton grounded out to third base.  McMillian advanced to third from first and scored on a throwing error on the third baseman for the 10-9 win.

VS CORNERSTONE
Dordt scored four runs in the fifth inning for a 5-2 lead and added two for insurance in the sixth to win a 7-3 decision. Logan Harris singled in a run in the first inning and added a three-run homerun in the sixth inning to spark the Dordt offense.  Harris also had a single the scored a run in the sixth inning.

Carson Belcher sacrificed a run in during the fifth and Dordt scraped a run across in the sixth on a throwing error on a double steal that helped Dordt's effort.

Jared Hughes kept Cornerstone off balance with a six inning effort and he struck out 13.

Dordt is 7-9 and will have Thursday off before playing Trinity Baptist and Calumet on Friday.
