The Dordt Defenders split a GPAC baseball doubleheader with Briar Cliff in the home finale for Dordt on Wednesday afternoon, April 23. Dordt won the opener 5-1 and Briar Cliff won the second game 9-1.

GAME ONE
The Defenders bounced back from a first inning where
Bennett Spronk was able to get out of a bases loaded situation by allowing one run and the Dordt offense responded with five in the home half of the inning.
Four of Dordt's runs were unearned as the hosts capitalized on an error to plate four additional runs.
Drew Oreskes got the first run in with a sacrifice fly and
Matthew McMillian broke the 1-1 tie with a single.
Joseph Schlesselman added a double with the bases loaded for a 4-1 lead and
Logan Harris ended the scoring with a single.
Neither team had many offensive chances with Briar Cliff getting two runners on in the fourth but a ground out ended the threat. The Chargers got a runner on in the fifth but Dordt got a double play to end the frame. Briar Cliff loaded the bases in the sixth but
Lincoln Vander Molen came on in relief and recorded the final out to end the uprising and Vander Molen got the save by retiring the side in the seventh.

GAME TWO
The Briar Cliff Chargers scored six in the first inning and went on to win 9-1 in the second game. Briar Cliff scored the six runs on six hits in the first inning and added three more on a combined six hits in the next two innings.
Dordt got one run back in the third with
DJ Kerr singling in
Gabriel McFarland but the inning ended with two runners stranded. Dordt had a scoring opportunity in the sixth but left two runners stranded.
