The Dordt University women's soccer team dropped its season opener to Eastern Oregon 4-0 in a match played this afternoon in La Grande, Oregon.
The host Mountaineers put away three goals in the opening frame, all by a different player. Tess Sando put the hosts in front 1-0 with a goal at the 11-minute mark while Siena Salazar and Gracie Rainsberry netted the second and third goals, respectively, during the 25th and 44th minute.
Eastern Oregon came through with its final goal early in the second half (50th minute) on a break away by Peyton Jacaway.
By the Numbers:
- Dordt was outshot 18-3 for the match, 9-1 in shots on-frame
- Joslyn Terpstra accounted for the Defenders shot on-goal
- Lydia Zylstra (0-1) made five saves for Dordt
- Abi Keltner, Karinna Tel and Lydia Zylstra played all 90 minutes for the Defenders
- both Jacaway and Sando led the Mountaineers with two shots on-goal
- Jacaway totaled a match-high three points
- Rylee Schei (1-0) earned the shutout for Eastern Oregon
