The Dordt University women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2–2 draw against unbeaten Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Defender Soccer Complex.
Dordt is now 1-2-1 on the season as they head into a road match against No.9 Missouri Valley this weekend. Culver-Stockton remains unbeaten at 3-0-1.
Karinna Tel led the way for the Defenders, scoring both goals to bring her season total to seven. Tel opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing a well-executed combination from
Jenna Roberts and
Joslyn Terpstra. Roberts, after receiving a pass from
Vicky Granda, took a few touches before connecting with Terpstra at the edge of the penalty area. Terpstra received the pass, turned and found Tel making a diagonal run to the near post where she netted the first goal of the match. Dordt held the lead into halftime, outshooting the Wildcats 6–3 in the first half.
Culver-Stockton responded after halftime with two quick goals. Rian Moore equalized in the 49th minute, assisted by Alayna Chandler-Guti, and then set up teammate Mikayla Gioia five minutes later to give the Wildcats a 2–1 lead.
The Defenders missed out on several chances to tie the match over the next 15 minutes, including a penalty kick opportunity that Culver-Stockton goalkeeper Sam Link stopped. Tel, however, drove the equalizer in the back of the net during the 85th minute off a pass from
Sara Franca Lourenco.
