The Dordt University men's track and field team won five events at their home meet, the Dordt Open, held today at the Holwerda Family Indoor Track.
The Defenders won three running events, one field event and one relay while recording a total of 50 top 10 finishes.
Bennett Wassenaar led a strong showing by the Defenders in the 400m, earning his first career win at Dordt with a time of 50.09.
Noah Schroder was the runner-up (51.52) while both
Dylan Obbink (52.77) and Scott Kross (52.78) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Isaac Davelaar earned the win in a competitive 600m field with a time of 1:20.86, overtaking Theo Moseman (Morningside) during the final lap.
Jackson Prins registered his first career win by taking first in the mile with a time of 4:25.93, nearly two seconds faster than Defenders teammate
Hudson Hamilton. In the lead pack for the duration of the race, Prins moved to the top position heading into the final lap. Three additional Dordt runners placed in the top five;
Truman Johnson (3rd - 4:30),
Ezra Landman (4:33) and
Derrek Vander Leest (5th - 4:35).
Willem Den Hartog took home gold in the pole vault and led a strong contingent of Defender athletes in the field events. Den Hartog cleared 4.45m (14-07.25) while three of his teammates,
Micah Evenhouse (2nd - 14.03.25),
Isaac Fergen (3rd - 13-03.5) and
Nathan Adams (5th - 13-03.5) also placed in the top five.
The Defenders closed out the meet with a wire-to-wire win in the 4x400 relay, crossing the finish line in 3:22.79, five second better than Northwestern. Relay members include

Isaac Davelaar.
