Defenders Claim Five Titles at Dordt Open

The Dordt University men's track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the Dordt Open, winning five events on their home track at the Holwerda Family Indoor Facility. The Defenders combined for 50 top-10 finishes, showcasing depth across both running and field events.

Dominance on the Track

Bennett Wassenaar highlighted Dordt's success in the 400m, earning his first career victory with a time of 50.09. Teammate Noah Schroder finished second (51.52), while Dylan Obbink (52.77) and Scott Kroll (52.78) claimed fourth and fifth, respectively, giving Dordt four of the top five spots.

In the 600m, Isaac Davelaar surged past Morningside's Theo Moseman on the final lap to secure the win in 1:20.86. His time ranks third nationally in the NAIA, sits atop the GPAC leaderboard, and meets the NAIA provisional standard.

The mile featured a breakthrough for Jackson Prins, who earned his first collegiate win with a time of 4:25.93, nearly two seconds ahead of teammate Hudson Hamilton. Dordt dominated the event with five runners in the top five: Truman Johnson (3rd – 4:30), Ezra Landman (4th – 4:33), and Derrek Vander Leest (5th – 4:35).

Field Event Success

Willem Den Hartog led the way in the pole vault, clearing 4.45m (14-07.25) to take first place. Dordt swept the top spots, with Micah Evenhouse (2nd – 14-03.25), Isaac Fergen (3rd – 13-03.5), and Nathan Adams (5th – 13-03.5) rounding out a dominant showing.

Relay Caps the Day

The Defenders closed the meet in style with a commanding win in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 3:22.79, five seconds ahead of Northwestern. The quartet of Jacob Schmoll, Isaiah Johnson, Bennett Wassenaar, and Isaac Davelaar controlled the race from start to finish.
