Jenny Lumkes recorded a personal-best point total in the pentathlon to highlight day one for the Dordt University women's track and field team at the Mount Marty Open, held Friday at the Ruth Donohue Fieldhouse in Yankton, South Dakota.
Lumkes placed sixth overall with a career-best score of 2,736 points, surpassing her previous personal best of 2,679 set last season at the SDSU D2/NAIA Open. The sophomore's performance now ranks fifth all-time in Dordt program history and currently sits eighth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings.
Lumkes capped off her pentathlon with her strongest showing in the final event, finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.80, earning 564 points. She also placed third in the long jump (4.88m), fifth in the shot put (9.26m), sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.27), and eighth in the high jump, clearing a season-best height of 1.39 meters.
Amelie Steins of Dakota State claimed the pentathlon title with 3,221 points, narrowly edging teammate Casey Olson, who finished second with 3,079 points.
The Defenders will return to Yankton on Saturday, January 17, for day two of the Mount Marty Open. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
