HOW IT HAPPENED

The contest featured eight ties and nine lead changes, with neither team able to create separation early. Dordt answered Mount Marty's opening basket with interior scores from Judson Henkel and Ty Van Essen to build an early 6–2 edge, but the Lancers responded with perimeter shooting to pull even multiple times in the opening half.

A three-pointer by Jake Proctor at the 11:31 mark ignited a Dordt push, and the Defenders briefly took control behind balanced scoring in the paint. Mount Marty countered late in the half with a 7–0 run, capped by a late three, to take a 41–37 lead into the break.

Dordt came out of halftime efficiently, shooting over 64 percent in the second half, as Van Essen scored inside and Connor Millikan attacked off the dribble to regain the lead. With the score tied at 72-72 inside the final three minutes, Proctor delivered back-to-back baskets in traffic—first a layup at the 2:10 mark and then a pull-up jumper with 1:19 remaining—to give Dordt a four-point cushion. Steven Poulicek sealed the win at the free throw line in the final seconds as Dordt held on for the 80–74 victory.
