The Dordt University softball team opened the 2026 season with a 6–2 victory over Peru State on Friday evening inside the ASB Dome, using timely extra-base hits and productive outs to score in five different innings.

Peru State struck first in the top of the opening inning, plating a run on a two-out RBI single after a leadoff double put immediate pressure on the Dordt defense. The Defenders responded immediately in the bottom of the first as
Chloe Kreuz evened the score with a solo home run to center field.
Dordt took control in the third inning, capitalizing on a leadoff single and a bunt that forced a throwing error. A sacrifice fly by
Annabelle Hensley brought home the go-ahead run before
Lauren Steenstra followed with a two-run home run to push the lead to 4–1. Peru State answered in the fourth with an unearned run, scoring on a sacrifice fly after an error and a single moved a runner into scoring position.
Dordt added insurance in the fifth inning when
Rylee Yager reached on an error, advanced, and scored on an RBI single from Hensley. The Defenders closed the scoring in the sixth as
Taylor Schneider tripled to right field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Tera Price, sealing the 6–2 victory.
