Six Defenders Entries Qualify for Nationals at Minnesota State

The Dordt University women's track and field team delivered an outstanding showing, highlighted by event victories, national qualifying marks, and multiple all-time top-10 performances in program history. Notes:
  • Addy Crow turned in the lone win on day two for the Defenders, taking first in the 1000m with a personal-best time of 3:02.58, just ahead of Tenley Nelson (Augustana)
  • Crow coupled her win in the 1000m with a runner-up finish in the mile earlier in the day
    • the sophomore out-kicked Ashley Overgaauw (Minnesota State) to get second with a personal-best and 'B' standard time of 5:05.14
    • two additional Defenders, Addy Liston (6th - 5:11) and Olivia Hoogland (8th - 5:12) also placed in the top 10 in the mile
  • for the second consecutive week, Fran Travis hit a qualifying mark to lead the Defenders in the field events
    • Travis finished fourth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 16.66m, .01 better than the 'B' standard
    • the sophomore achieved her best mark on her third attempt in the prelims
    • Travis' best mark in the finals (15.72m) was on her final attempt
  • Travis also had a top 10 finish in the shot put
    • a week after hitting the 'B' standard, Travis placed second in today's shot put final with a mark of 13.48m
  • Shelby Buwalda hit the 'B' standard in three events over the weekend
    • on Friday night, Buwalda ran the 400m carry of the Defenders winning distance medley that has the No.1 time in the NAIA (Addy Liston, Arielle DeYoung, Corinne Braun)
    • Buwalda came back today with a second place finish and 'B' standard qualifying time in the 800m
      • the senior crossed the finish line in 2:18.66, less than a half second behind Ellie Hanowski (Minnesota Duluth) and just ahead of Defenders teammate, Arielle DeYoung
  • Buwalda concluded the meet with the anchor leg in the Defenders 4x400 relay that posted its best time of the season (converted to 3:53.30), currently the No.5 time in the NAIA
  • Arielle Deyoung wrapped her outstanding weekend with a third place finish and 'B' standard qualifying time in the 800m
    • DeYoung ran a personal-best time of 2:18.81, currently No.18 in the NAIA
  • Elizabeth Hoogland gave the Defenders a third, top-10 finisher in the 800m, placing ninth with a personal-best time of 2:21.73
  • Wercinski and Den Herder both recorded a top five finish in the 400m
    • both Defenders ran a personal-best time; Wercinski (3rd - 57.93) and Den Herder (5th - 59.16)
  • Dordt athletes totaled 10, all-time top 10's, 34 personal bests and 18 top 10 finishes

  • Addy Crow - 1000m: 3:02.58
