The Dordt University baseball team improved to 5-5 on the season after completing a doubleheader sweep of MidAmerica Nazarene on Thursday afternoon at Dixon Stadium by 8-0 and 3-2 scores.

The Defenders opened the day with an 8-0 victory, outhitting the Pioneers 9-4. Dordt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after
Ryan Vann singled and
Jimmy Twombly followed with a bunt single.
Ryan Vann crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to center field by
Logan Harris. Later in the frame,
Drew Oreskes reached on a fielder's choice and
Logan Templeton walked to load the bases, allowing
DJ Kerr to pick up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the second when
Ryan Vann walked and scored when
Jimmy Twombly reached on a throwing error. In the third,
Logan Harris reached on a walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by
DJ Kerr to make it 4-0. Dordt added insurance in the fourth as
Logan Harris cleared the bases with a two-run double, scoring
Logan Templeton and
Braeden Biggar.
The Defenders capped the scoring in the sixth with two more sacrifice flies from
Joseph Schlesselman and
DJ Kerr. On the mound,
Bennett Spronk earned the win, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

The nightcap required a late-inning comeback as the Defenders overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win 3-2. MidAmerica Nazarene took the lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI double. Dordt began to chip away in the third inning after
Chisum Demmers drew a walk; his courtesy runner,
Cade Williams, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a
Jimmy Twombly RBI single to left.
The Defenders tied the game in the sixth inning when
Logan Harris was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and was driven home by a clutch RBI single from
DJ Kerr.
In the top of the seventh,
Chisum Demmers was hit by a pitch and
Jarrett Herz entered to pinch run. Herz stole both second and third base before crossing the plate on a wild pitch to give Dordt the 3-2 lead.
Daniel Buteyn earned the win with six innings pitched and eight strikeouts, while
JT Fitzgibbons earned the save with a perfect seventh inning.
