The Dordt University baseball team split a February 20 doubleheader with MidAmerica Nazarene University at Dixon Stadium in Olathe, Kansas. Dordt dropped the opener 16-2 before responding with a 7-2 win in the nightcap.

MidAmerica Nazarene used a four-run second inning and a six-run fourth to seize control early and pull away for a 16-2 decision in the first game of the day.
After a scoreless first, the Pioneers strung together three hits, a stolen base and took advantage of a Dordt error in the second inning to score four runs for a 4-0 lead. The Defenders limited further damage in the third, but MidAmerica Nazarene broke the game open in the fourth. Five consecutive hitters reached base in a six-run inning that included a two-run single and three additional RBI hits to stretch the margin to 10-0.
Dordt answered in the top of the fifth. With two outs,
Chisum Demmers singled and
Jarrett Herz entered as a pinch runner.
Jimmy Twombly followed with a two-run home run to left field, driving in Herz and putting Dordt on the board at 10-2.
MidAmerica Nazarene responded immediately with another six-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a three-run home run, pushing the score to its final margin of 16-2.
Dordt collected six hits in the contest.
Logan Harris had two hits, while
Joseph Schlesselman, Demmers,
Luke Arndorfer, and Twombly added one apiece.
On the mound,
Matthew Eubanks made the start and was followed by
Rylan Boe,
Drew DeVries, and
Kevin Quezada in relief.

Dordt responded in the nightcap, erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 7-2 victory.
MidAmerica Nazarene manufactured a four-run second inning and added six in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead in the opener, but in game two the Pioneers were limited to early single runs before Dordt's breakthrough.
Trailing 2-0 entering the fifth, the Defenders put together their biggest inning of the day. After
Stephen Dillender reached and moved into scoring position, Schlesselman doubled to center field to score Dillender and cut the lead to 2-1. A passed ball later in the inning allowed Herz to score and tie the game at 2-2.
Dordt seized momentum from there.
Drew Oreskes singled home Schlesselman for a 3-2 lead. With the bases loaded, Harris delivered the decisive swing — a three-run triple to right field — clearing the bases and stretching the advantage to 6-2.
DJ Kerr followed with an RBI single to cap the seven-run outburst and complete the rally.
On the mound, Dordt pitching settled in after the early runs and held MidAmerica Nazarene scoreless over the final four innings to secure the split.
