Baseball | Defenders Fall In Doubleheader With Northwestern

Game 1: Northwestern 13, Dordt 2
The Northwestern Red Raiders utilized a high-powered offense and multiple multi-run innings to defeat the Dordt Defenders 13-2 in the first game of the doubleheader. Dordt will face Mount Marty next weekend in a pair of doubleheaders.

Northwestern set the tone early, erupting for three runs on a three-run home run.  Dordt cut into the lead in the second when Stephen Dillender reached on a fielder's choice to plate Logan Harris, making it 3-1. However, the Red Raiders broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to extend the advantage to 9-1.

The Defenders added a run in the fifth on a Luke Arndorfer sacrifice fly, but Northwestern continued to apply pressure. A two-run home run in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh capped the scoring for the Red Raiders.

Northwestern completed the doubleheader sweep with a 15-9 victory in a back-and-forth contest that saw the teams combine for 24 runs and 26 hits.

The Red Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Dordt responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half behind RBI singles from Logan Harris and Drew Oreskes and a sacrifice fly by Stephen Dillender.
After Northwestern added two runs in the third, the Defenders surged back to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the third, fueled by a two-RBI double from Dillender and an RBI single from Joey Schlesselman.

The game remained tight until the late innings when a two-run home run in the sixth to help the Red Raiders regain a lead they would not relinquish. Northwestern added three insurance runs in the ninth to stretch the lead to 15-7.
Dordt attempted a late rally in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run by Logan Harris, but the Red Raiders held on to secure the six-run win.
