The Dordt University women's cross country and track and field programs are in third place after two of the three seasons of the Fred Beile Program of the Year Award compiled by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).
The USTFCCCA Fred Beile Program of the Year Award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at the NAIA Championships.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the three NAIA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NAIA Championship in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points … 31st = 31 points) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award winner. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
Through two seasons (cross country and indoor track and field), the Defenders have 16 points and are in third place overall. Marian (Ind.) is the leader with seven points and Indiana Wesleyan is second at 15.5 points. Milligan (Tenn.) and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) round out the top five with 20.5 and 21.5 points, respectively.
Dordt finished third in the NAIA Cross Country National Championship and three Defenders earned All-American honors. Dordt followed with a 13th place finish at the NAIA Indoor National Championships last month with 20 Defenders earning All-American honors.
