The Dordt Defender baseball team dropped both games of a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader against Briar Cliff on Friday, April 17 in Sioux City, falling 6-3 in the opener and 9-2 in game two. Dordt is 7-15 in the league and 17-25 overall while Briar Cliff goes to 13-9 in the GPAC and 20-21 overall.Â

Dordt found itself in an early hole as Briar Cliff scored in each of the first two innings and added another in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. The Chargers used a solo home run and a run-scoring double in the second inning to build momentum before capitalizing on a Dordt error in the fourth.
The Defenders responded with their best stretch in the fifth inning, stringing together three runs on three hits and an error. Luke Arndorfer delivered an RBI double to get Dordt on the board, Ryan Vann followed with a run-scoring groundout, and Jimmy Twombly added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3.
Briar Cliff answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice with the help of a single and a Dordt error to push the lead back to 6-3. Dordt was unable to generate another rally over the final two innings as Briar Cliff closed out the win.

The second game was tightly contested early, with Dordt taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a
Logan Templeton RBI double. Briar Cliff answered in the bottom half and the teams traded runs again in the fifth, with Dordt briefly reclaiming a 2-1 advantage on a
Drew Oreskes RBI double.
That edge disappeared quickly as Briar Cliff hit a two-run home run in the fifth to go ahead 3-2. The Chargers then broke the game open in the sixth inning, scoring five runs. Dordt committed two errors in the frame, leading to multiple unearned runs and extending the deficit to 8-2.
Briar Cliff added another run in the seventh while Dordt was held scoreless over the final four innings, finishing with six hits but unable to string together sustained offense late.
