The Dordt Defender baseball team secured a doubleheader sweep of Waldorf on Saturday, April 18 in Sioux Center, winning 9-5 in the opener and completing the sweep with a 14-7 victory in game two. Dordt improves to 19-25 overall and 9-15 in the GPAC with four games remaining next week against Hastings and Doane.

Dordt responded after surrendering two runs in the first inning by taking control with a four-run third and never relinquishing the lead. The Defenders loaded the bases in the third and got on the board with an RBI single by
Jimmy Twombly before
Stephen Dillender delivered a two-run double down the left field line. Joey Schlesselman followed with an RBI single to cap the inning and give Dordt a 4-2 lead.
Dordt added two more runs in the fourth inning, using small ball to extend the advantage.
Logan Templeton singled home a run and
Drew Oreskes added a sacrifice fly for a 6-3 lead. After Waldorf scored twice in the fifth, Dordt created separation in the sixth inning when Schlesselman cleared the bases with a three-run double, pushing the lead to 9-4.
Waldorf threatened early, but Dordt pitching settled in after the first inning and limited opportunities down the stretch to secure the win.

The Defenders again struck early and used multiple scoring bursts to pull away. Dordt plated three runs in the first inning with RBI singles from
Drew Oreskes and Jarett Herz along with a sacrifice fly by Dillender.
After Waldorf briefly took a 6-4 lead through four innings, Dordt responded with a steady offensive push. The Defenders tied the game in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Joey Schlesselman and an RBI double by
Chisum Demmers.
Jacob Camp gave Dordt two and a third innings of effective relief and allowed just a run.
Dordt regained the lead for good in the sixth inning, taking advantage of errors and timely hitting. Schlesselman drove in two runs on a single and
DJ Kerr followed with an RBI single to make it 9-6.
The game broke open in the seventh inning when Dordt scored five runs. Oreskes and Dillender each drove in runs with singles, Kerr added another RBI hit, and Demmers capped the inning with a sacrifice fly as Dordt extended the lead to 14-6.
Waldorf added a run in the eighth, but Dordt closed out the sweep as
Morgan Wilkins struck out all five batters he faced to finish the game.
