4x400 Relay Qualifies for Finals Headlines Day Two at Drake Relays

The Dordt University men's track and field team concluded day two of the Drake Relays with two individuals and five relays competing on the Blue Oval on Friday. The 2026 Drake Relays is being held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Notes:

  • Willem Den Hartog finished tied for 17th among 24 qualifiers in the pole vault
    • Den Hartog cleared the first two heights, both on his first attempt
    • the junior tied Austin Schloeder (Hamline) with both clearing 4.66m / 15-3.5
    • Den Hartog was second among NAIA finishers, trailing Ridge Willard (Indiana Wesleyan)
    • Dutch Neuweiler (USD) cleared 5.21m / 17-01 and won the event
  • Levi Schelhaas finished 18th in the 400m with a season-best time of 48.24
    • the senior's time currently ranks second in the GPAC
    • the field consisted of athletes in NCAA D-I, D-II, D-III and NAIA
    • Tavon Underwood (Kansas State) won the title with a time of 46.07
  • the Defenders 4x400 relay advanced to Saturday's final with their time in today's prelim
    • Dordt finished second in heat one and ran the fifth fastest time overall to earn a spot in the 8-team final
    • the Defenders ran a season-best time of 3:11.76 and hit the 'A' standard
    • their time ranks sixth best in the current NAIA performance list
    • Dordt's time ranks fourth fastest in program history
    • UW-Oshkosh ran the fastest time in the prelim, winning the first heat with a time of 3:09

  • the Defenders 4x100 relay placed fourth in their heat, 14th overall, in the prelims this morning
    • Luke Nikkel, Levi Davelaar, Jacob Schmoll, Levi Schelhaas posted a season-best time of 42.08, seventh fastest in program history
    • the Defenders were third among NAIA teams competing, trailing Olivet Nazarene and William Penn, who both made Saturday's 8-team final
    • UW-Oshkosh posted the fastest time in the prelims (40.34)
  • the Defenders finished 11th in the 4x1600m relay, second among the NAIA teams
  • Dordt finished sixth out of 14 teams in the sprint medley
