The Dordt Defender softball team used a balanced offensive attack and a strong pitching performance to secure a 6-1 win over Briar Cliff on Saturday, April 25 in Sioux City, Iowa. Dordt improves to 36-10 overall and 17-4 in the GPAC. Game two of the doubleheader was suspended due to rain and poor field conditions with Dordt leading 8-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out. The game is scheduled to resume on Monday, April 27.

Dordt broke through in the third inning when
Chloe Kreuz doubled to left field to score
Taylor Schneider for a 1-0 lead. The Defenders created separation in the fourth, plating four runs on four hits.
Lauren Steenstra started the inning with a solo home run,
Addison Stephenson-Roy later scored on an
Aubrey DeShaw RBI single, and Tera Lynn Price capped the rally with a two-run home run for a 5-0 advantage. Dordt added its final run in the fifth inning when
Annabelle Hensley hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 6-0.
Briar Cliff scored its lone run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly, but Dordt pitcher
Rylee Yager limited further damage and closed out the game.
Yager earned the win with a complete game effort, allowing one run on seven hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Dordt will be the second seed in the GPAC Tournament and will host a four-team double-elimination tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, April 28 and 29. Midland will host a second four-team bracket with the winner of those two fields playing a best of three series on Saturday, May 2 at the highest remaining seed.
